Hoy en nuestro calendario maya Keb Iq´, celebramos nuestro Doce Asamblea Nacional y los veinte años de organización y lucha en el marco del Oxlajuj Baq´tun que significa un nuevo amanecer, un nuevo horizonte, la era de la luz, el camino equilibrado hacia una nueva generación. Llegamos a nuestros 20 años de organización y lucha por el rescate de la cultura maya, la madre tierra y el territorio.

El 16 de julio de 1992, era el Oxib No’j en nuestro calendario Maya, desde la Comunidad Santa Inés, Retalhuleu, iniciamos el duro camino de aportar en la liberación y transformación del pueblo maya y campesino, 22 dirigentes, de las comunidades Santa Inés, Retalhuleu; San Cayetano y Cantón Los Angeles, San Felipe, Retalhuleu; Cajolá, Quetzaltenango, Chuarixché, El Tablón y Santiago Atitlán Sololá, Chicabracan I y El Naranjo Quiché. Nos propusimos la tarea de devolver una vida digna y humana al pueblo maya y campesino a través de la organización y lucha diaria.

Actualmente hemos avanzado nuestra lucha organizativa en 660 comunidades miembros y mas 300 comunidades en proceso de integración, plena distribuidas en 18 departamentos del país. Trabajo que ha costado el esfuerzo y la lucha de reorganizar a nuestro pueblo y comunidades porque la colonización, la opresión y la explotación ha dejado huellas, tiene sembradas sus estructuras políticas e ideológicas a través de sus escuelas, universidades, iglesias e instituciones, para trabajar nuestra mente y comportamiento, ha impuesto sus instituciones para destruir las nuestras, gracias a los abuelos y abuelas, por resistir a esta opresión que nos han devuelto nuestras raíces y nuestra cosmovisión.

Conmemoramos esta Magna Asamblea en un contexto con raíces colonialistas, los pueblos mayas hemos sido objeto de despojo de nuestras tierras, sabidurías. Aún el Estado guatemalteco tiene un sistema excluyente, imponiendo un sistema de desarrollo fuera de toda la lógica cosmogónica de los pueblos.
